Julia L. Miller

Julia Miller studied Modern and Mediaeval Languages at the University of Cambridge, lived in the equally beautiful city of York, and then taught English as a foreign language in the mountains of Portugal. She later spent many happy years as a lecturer in academic writing in Australia, collecting a research MA and a PhD along the way. Apart from interacting with some incredibly inspiring students, the most enjoyable part of her academic career was developing the free English for Uni website, with its humorous teaching videos featuring grammar detective Ms Parrot.

She writes in a variety of genres, but all her stories contain elements of intrigue, often with a dash of humour, and all have strong women characters.

Her first book, Crime and Prejudice, a light-hearted Jane Austen pastiche in which everyone is a criminal, was shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print prize, 2025.

Julia also co-writes with her partner Alan Prout under the name of Alana Miller. Our three Christmas romance novels are under this name: Castaway Christmas, Longing for Christmas and Christmas Island Wedding.
